was born in 1985, in Budapest, Hungary.
I got started in CG in 2003, when one of my friends showed me a chess figure he made in 3D Studio MAX R3.
I was really amazed, until then I couldn’t imagine how 3D images are created. I tried the program,
read a lot of tutorials and references, practiced a lot and now I’m here.

What is your 3d software package of choice and why?
It is 3D Studio. I tried other programs too, but I always got back to 3ds. I suppose a lot of people like the software they tried first the most, because they can feel themselves in home with that.
I also use ZBrush, I think it’s a really powerful software, gives you another point of view in CG.
 Intel or AMD? : )
Good question. : ) I had processors from both manufacturer, and if I had to choose, maybe I would say Intel is a bit faster in rendering. But it can be that I’m lopsided, because now I have an Intel processor. : )

Modeling Stage:
It is really hard to find a good quality blueprint for these cars, so the modeling was the toughest part of the project. I found a low quality blueprint for another version of this car, according to it I could place the wheels and see the basic scale of the body. |
|
After this I modeled the parts from the hood to the rear bumper one by one, with the help of reference images. The interior is very simple, just to show the car is not empty. The whole car was created with poly-modeling, except for the tire threads, where I used a displacement map. |

Lighting Stage:
I used two invisible plane vray-lights, one over the front and one over the back of the car. They just give the shadow of the car, the reflections came from another source.
Material/Shader/Texture:
Materials are really basic, all of them are vray materials. The car paint has a black diffuse, fresnel reflections setup, with a blurry copy of it as a shellac composite. The chrome is simply black diffuse white reflection. On the brake discs I used a bump map I created in Photoshop, by applying a radial blur filter on a noise map.
Rendering:
Rendering was done with Vray. No GI was used, because I wanted a dark picture with a dark car, where the reflections give the contrast of the image, and for that, GI is unnecessary. For the reflections, I used a black&white gradient ramp texture as the environment. |
|

Post Production:
For the post-works I used Photoshop. After rendering I added a little brightness and contrast. For the chrome parts, like the rims or the side exhausts, I added a little more. After this I copied the picture’s layer, added a diffuse glow filter to it and a black layer mask, and painted the mask white where I wanted a little extra glow. Finally, I used a sharpen filter and the picture was finished. |

Your Pontiac GTO 1969 scene is wonderful, what made your do it?
My favorites are old american muscle cars. I like the mean and aggressive look and their rough shape. Here in Hungary they are really rare, you can see a Ferrari or a Lamborghini together more often than a muscle car, so they’re exotic. The Pontiac GTO is one of the most beautiful of these cars and not so famous like the Chevrolet Camaro or Ford Mustang, so I decided to make
a picture with it.
Why do you like to model vehicles in 3d?
I’ve always been a car fan. I don’t know too much about how they work and I’m not interested in the performance of them neither, but their look and design is compelling for me. |
|
What inspires your work?
To always create something new, if possible, with various methods, and to make my imagination visible for other people
in 3D.
Do you have any advice for beginner artists?
I think if you really want something, you can do it, but first you have to learn the basics. Don’t try to model for example your favorite car after 1 week of using a 3D package, because you’ll be disappointed. There are tons of great tutorials on the internet, a lot of people willing to help you, but if you don’t know the basics, you won’t understand what you’re doing, and because of that, you won’t learn anything.
Thank you Tamas.
My pleasure. |
